Come join the fun of this fast paced Olympic sport!! Fencing is a martial art that develops quickness, discipline, fair play, and confidence.
Students will learn:
- Proper usage of the equipment and safety.
- Correct Footwork. How to advance, retreat, and lunge!
- Basic bladework. How to correctly control their foil.
- Basic tactics for fencing.
All equipment will be provided.
The last class will feature a practice tournament in which the students can test out their new swashbuckling skills!
Students are asked to wear comfortable athletic clothing and proper athletic shoes.
Fencing masks, jackets, gloves, and swords are provided for use during the camp.
Coach Colleen Gallant will instruct students on the weapon of foil, the original fencing weapon developed more than 500 years ago and still fenced in modern tournaments. She was one of the top 5 foilists in her age group in the country and is a certified coach with the United States Fencing Coaches Association.
COVID Notice: All students will be required to wear face masks inside the fencing academy to protect coaches and other students. Intensity of athletic activity will be reduced in order to compensate and prevent any medical issues.
